Playing indoors, even when the weather is against you

Filling an afternoon or a holiday day at a childcare group means counting on things you cannot control. The weather is one of them. A plan that can collapse at half past one is not a plan.

With us everything happens indoors. 9 game rooms with light-up floors that react to your feet, walls covered in buttons that light up and challenges children can only crack together. Everyone wears a wristband that keeps score. Pouring rain or a dark November afternoon: it makes no difference to the programme.

One stop, then an eight-minute walk

Heemskerk has something many towns around here lack: its own station on the Kennemerlijn, with Beverwijk as the very next stop. There is a direct train every half hour. From Beverwijk station it is an 8-minute walk to the door.

For a group of children that saves a lot of organising. No minibus to hire, no roping in parents who have to drive back at four. Get on, get off once, walk a short way. A ride of a few minutes is long enough to feel like an adventure and too short to become tiresome.

If driving suits you better: it is under ten minutes and parking is free, right outside the door. With older children you can cycle it from Heemskerk too.

How a visit like this runs

The programme that comes closest to what a group of children needs is the Sport Deal. An hour and a half, in two blocks.

  1. 1BeforehandHolding the date

You can hold a date with no obligation before you book definitively. Handy while the holiday planning still has to come together.

  2. 245 minFirst block

The group heads into the rooms. Running, pressing, working together. The wristband is counting, so there is something to argue about straight away.

  3. 3BreakCrisps and squash

Sit down, drink, get your breath back. The squash is unlimited and the crisps are waiting.

  4. 445 minSecond block

Different rooms, different games. Whoever stood watching at first has usually joined in by now.

What it costs, no detours

The Sport Deal is €24.50 per person, from 5 people. That covers the hour and a half, plus the break with crisps and unlimited squash.

It is more than the play centre round the corner asks, and it is an hour and a half, not a full-day programme. For a Wednesday afternoon that fits exactly; on an eight-hour holiday day it is the outing of that day, not the whole day.

Different numbers, or an invoice in the name of the organisation? Put it to us and we will work it out together.

What we are honest about

This is not a quiet place. Light, sound, pace and a score. Most children think that is exactly what makes it fun, but almost every after-school care group has someone for whom it becomes too much. Bear that in mind when you divide the children up.

  • From about 6, groep 3, children really take part. Little ones of 4 and 5 often find it goes too fast.
  • The rooms are separate spaces. Supervisors go in with the children; that works better here than staying on the sidelines.
  • We are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. On Wednesday and Thursday we open at 12:00.

Not sure whether it suits your group? Come and have a look during opening hours before you hold a date.

Questions we get more than once

Do 25 children fit in at the same time?

Yes. The whole park takes 70 people at once, supervisors included. With numbers like that we spread the group across the rooms, so you do not get thirty children waiting at the same door.

Can we come on a Wednesday afternoon after school?

On Wednesdays the park is open from 12:00 and the last ticket starts at 18:00. An after-school care afternoon fits in there. Mondays and Tuesdays will not work, because we are closed then.

Our numbers keep shifting until the morning itself. When do they have to be final?

Hold a date with no obligation first. We agree the number of children at the moment you book; pass it on via contact as soon as it is settled at your end.

Is this also something for the summer holidays?

Honestly? At thirty degrees I would do the beach first, and yours is round the corner. Put us on the list for the rainy day that turns up in every holiday week, and for the autumn and Christmas holidays.
