Throwing a kids' party from Heerhugowaard
Heerhugowaard was built around space: wide streets, plenty of green, plenty of young families. What it has little of are places where a group of children can burn off their energy indoors when it's bleak outside.
Half an hour further south, in Beverwijk, stands PlayKinetix: 9 interactive game rooms where the floors and walls join in. For many parents here it's the first time their children have seen anything like it.
From Heerhugowaard to the Handelskade
You join the A9 via Alkmaar and stay on it until the Beverwijk exit. About half an hour, with no tunnel on the route — which helps: when there are roadworks at the Velsertunnel, you won't notice a thing from this direction. At the end you park for free by the entrance.
By public transport you change onto the Kennemerlijn at Castricum or Uitgeest and carry on another two or three stops to Beverwijk. That works perfectly well, but with a group of children it soon adds up to an hour each way.
One practical note: because the drive takes half an hour, parents from this corner often plan their party for a Wednesday afternoon or the weekend, with a start time that falls outside rush hour.

An hour and a half of play costs €24.50 per child, with your own table, lemonade and something to nibble on included. In the XL version they play two blocks of 45 minutes — often the more sensible choice if you're driving a fair way. The morning party on Saturday and Sunday starts at €19.50 per child.
Cake, fries or an ice cream can be booked separately. You hold a date with no obligation and only confirm for good once the guest list is settled. You could also have a look at a kids' party from Alkmaar — you share most of that route.
