From IJmuiden to the Handelskade
By car you drive from the Pontplein through the Velsertunnel to Beverwijk in about twelve minutes. At the end you park for free right outside — no ticket machine, no lap around the block.
Keep an eye on the Velsertunnel: if it's closed for maintenance, traffic goes round via the Wijkertunnel and you're a quarter of an hour longer on the road. A quick check before you leave saves you a tense drive with a car full of children.
IJmuiden has no station of its own. If you'd rather use public transport, you join the Kennemerlijn at Driehuis or Santpoort-Noord; from Driehuis, Beverwijk is one stop. With a group of children the car is usually simpler.
