A party that doesn't depend on the weather forecast
If you're searching for a kids' party in Noord-Holland, you probably don't have a town in mind yet. What you do have is a date, a group of children and a problem: it's February, it's raining, and playing outside is off the table.
PlayKinetix is on the Handelskade in Beverwijk, on the western side of the province. What you do here is indoors, but it's nothing like sitting still. In 9 game rooms the floors react to your feet and the walls light up when it's time to hit them. Every child gets a wristband that keeps score. No screen, no controller — the group is on its feet the whole time.

What you're probably weighing up right now
Usually it comes down to two familiar options: the indoor play centre round the corner, or doing it at home. Both come with a familiar drawback.
The indoor play centre is close by and cheap, which is exactly why there are four birthday parties going on at once on a Saturday. It's built for toddlers and preschoolers. A nine-year-old is done with the climbing frame within twenty minutes.
At home is lovely right up until eight children have to stay indoors. From that point on you're games host, cook and damage control all at once, and you're still clearing up that evening.
What's different here: the children play two rounds of thirty minutes in the game rooms and sit at their own table in between. You don't have to come up with anything. The games do the work, and the mess afterwards is our problem.
Indoors isn't a plan B here
A large share of birthdays fall in autumn and winter. Anyone with an October birthday knows the list: zoo, beach, playground — every one of them subject to the weather.
That calculation disappears here. Everything happens indoors. Whatever it's doing outside changes nothing about the booking, and so nothing about the group chat with eight parents who have already said yes.
Almost everything that genuinely tires children out in this province happens outdoors. Here, they do their running inside.
Is the drive worth it?
That's the honest question for a page about a whole province. Beverwijk isn't in the middle of Noord-Holland. For some it's five minutes, for others half an hour. Checked with a route planner, from the town centre and without traffic:
- Heemskerk — under ten minutes.
- IJmuiden — around ten minutes.
- Haarlem and Bloemendaal — around twenty minutes.
- Heemstede and Zaandam — around twenty-five minutes.
- Hoofddorp and Alkmaar — around half an hour.
One thing a route planner explains badly: there is no motorway route from Zaandam. The A8 stops at Westzaan and the link to the A9 was never built, so you drive the last stretch on regional roads.
What if you live further away
Families come to us from Purmerend, Heerhugowaard, Almere and Amsterdam. For them this isn't a quick trip round the corner, and we won't pretend otherwise. Work the drive out for yourself, and don't leave the journey home too tight.
If you'd rather not drive: Beverwijk station is an eight-minute walk from our door, on the Kennemerlijn line. There's a direct train every half hour from Haarlem, Heemskerk, Castricum, Uitgeest and Alkmaar.
Coming from anywhere else means changing trains: from Zaandam at Uitgeest, from Heemstede and Bloemendaal at Haarlem. Hoofddorp has no direct connection, and IJmuiden has no station at all.
Three towns send us so many families that we've written out the route separately: from Haarlem, from Alkmaar and from Castricum.
What it costs, without an enquiry form
Comparison sites list the prices in this province side by side anyway, so here they are.
A kids' party costs €24.50 per child. Two rounds of thirty minutes of play, two hours from arrival to departure, from five children upwards. Unlimited lemonade, your own table and a bag of crisps per child are included. The morning party on Saturday and Sunday starts at €19.50 per child.
The XL costs €29.50 per child: two rounds of forty-five minutes, two and a half hours in total, with lemonade and crisps.
You can hold a date with no obligation and only confirm it later. Handy if you're coming from further afield: first find out who can share the driving, then confirm.
Questions parents from outside Beverwijk ask
We'd be driving half an hour. Is that worth it for two hours?
That depends on what you have nearby. If there's a place round the corner where the floor plays along, go there. If there isn't, you're driving here for something your child hasn't seen before. Allow half an afternoon door to door, not a full day out.
Isn't this just an amusement arcade with cabinets?
No. There isn't a single cabinet and there's no controller. The games are in the floor and the walls of 9 game rooms: running, hitting buttons as they light up, solving a challenge together. Anyone who walks out of here after two hours has genuinely been moving.
Does it work if the children are different ages?
The games run on reaction and teamwork, not on reading or on who is strongest. That keeps a mixed group together. A party starts at five children, and seventy people can be in the park at the same time — so two families together works fine too.
Can we come on a Monday or Tuesday?
No, the park is closed then. We open at 12:00 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and at 10:30 on Saturday and Sunday. On Friday and Saturday you can start as late as 22:00, on the other days until 18:00. For a group we'll agree the time with you.
