An outing for people who already work together all week
The Zaanstreek is a working region. Cocoa and food production, manufacturing, logistics, a hospital, a large head office. People here work in shifts and rotas, in teams that see each other all week anyway. A group like that doesn't need any ice broken. What it wants is something where the usual pecking order doesn't apply for a while.
PlayKinetix is an indoor game park on the Handelskade in Beverwijk. 9 game rooms with light-up floors that respond to your feet, walls full of buttons that light up and challenges you only win together. A wristband keeps the scores. No screen, no controller, and you're on your feet the whole time.
The weather doesn't get a say
The hardest part of a team outing isn't the price, it's the date. In October you book something for the end of November, you invite thirty people, and then you wait to see what the sky does.
You don't have to ask that question here. Everything happens indoors. Rain, hail or a storm over the Noordzeekanaal makes no difference to the programme. Which is why January and February are perfectly usable here. Indoors doesn't mean sitting down, by the way: anyone who checks their step count afterwards usually gets a shock. The route: no motorway, but a straight run
Let's be honest about the drive first. There is no motorway route from Zaandam to Beverwijk: the A8 stops at Westzaan and the link to the A9 was never built.
So you take the provincial road: through Zaandam-West, onto the Nauernaseweg at Nauerna and then the N246, which runs in one straight line past Assendelft to Beverwijk. About 25 minutes. On the map it feels further than it is, because there's no thick blue line between the two. Parking is free, right outside the door on the De Pijp business park.
The train is awkward. Zaandam is on the Zaanlijn, Beverwijk on the Kennemerlijn, and the two only meet at Uitgeest. So that means changing. Fine for the colleague without a car, but no basis for a group outing.

The rooms are yours
With the Fun Deal your group has all the game rooms for an hour and a half. You split the crew and rotate, and you don't share a room with a birthday party that happens to be in as well.

Not every room is about speed. Some are about timing, memory or shouting something to each other in time. The fastest runner is far from always the winner here.
The score adds itself up
The wristband totals the points automatically, per person and per room. Nobody has to stand on the sidelines with a clipboard, and there's a genuine final result.

We're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. From Wednesday to Friday we open at 12:00, at weekends at 10:30. On Fridays and Saturdays a group can start up to 22:00, on the other days up to 18:00.

Everyone gets a wristband, the group is split up and the small teams move through the rooms. Each room is short, so the rivalry starts by itself.
- 3AfterwardsSnacks and the final result
With Game & Bites or the Drinks Deal you sit down at the table for the snacks, and the result comes with it. That's the part that usually produces the stories.
Questions we get from the Zaanstreek
There are 30 of us. Will half the department be standing around waiting?
No. The park has room for 70 people and with the Fun Deal your group has all the game rooms for an hour and a half. You play in small teams that move on. With 30 people you fall into the band from 28: €26.50 per person.
Our people work shifts. Can we come during the day?
Yes, except on Mondays and Tuesdays, because the park is closed then. From Wednesday to Friday we're open from 12:00, at weekends from 10:30. For groups we agree the time together.
Isn't an hour and a half too short for an outing?
As game time an hour and a half is substantial, because you're moving non-stop. As a whole day it's too short, and we'll admit that honestly. That's why Game & Bites and the Drinks Deal add an eating and drinking part to it.
Isn't this mainly a children's place?
In the school holidays it's full of children here during the day, that's true. But the rooms themselves aren't childish: scoring systems, reaction tests and team challenges that adults get every bit as fierce about. See the team building page.
